First, the TU and Shelter NSW are holding a seminar, 'What's the Rent?', to discuss the possible futures of social housing rent policies and Commonwealth Rent Assistance. As we've noted before, there are a number of fronts of pressure bearing on the current state of rental assistance policy, and it's time for tenants and their advocates to start thinking about what sort of policy they'd like to see in the future.
'What's the Rent?' is a half-day seminar on Wednesday 15 February, 9 am- 1 pm, at the Sydney Mechanics' School of Arts, Pitt St Sydney. Cost is $45 (waged) and $20 (unwaged); registration closes 1 February.
Next up is Shelter's very popular 'Housing Economics for Non-Economists' lecture series, covering everything from matters of planning, tax, affordability and supply to the political economy of housing. The series comprises four lectures on consecutive Monday afternoons , starting 5 March (4 pm -6 pm). Cost is $150 for the series, with some 'scholarships' available; registration closes 24 February.
